RIVITA is a multi-talented power woman, an artist that began by her Do-it-Yourself talents as a writer, producer and mixer. She also filmed and edited her own music videos, and now spends much of her time with her production team, living and breathing the LA dream!
She spoke to us about her love of bringing people from all over the globe together to create magic, and her newly released single, "Chocolate".
What brought you to LA?
The weather, the neighborhood I live in and the industry!
What is the biggest misconception about you?
Ah, there are quite a few ranging from cultural and religious assumptions to just assumptions about my professional history. I don’t see a lot of point focusing on clarifications, the most important thing in any conversation for me as an artist is the music. I enjoy talking about the process of making it and how I got to where I am! Currently, I work out of my studio in LA, I started out as a “Do-it-yourself” artist around 5 years - writing, recording, producing and mixing myself eventually leading to me also filming and editing my music videos. Slowly, over a period of time my team grew, I work with different musicians from time to time and director of photography. I don’t believe in working in a traditional studio setting, while it does have it’s benefits, I just don’t see how it represents our generation culturally. The thing about making music is that it is an itch and for most of us it doesn’t just stop at writing the song and waiting for someone else to harness it into a recording. When you have to record or produce, often times, the space just doesn’t matter, what matters is documenting the idea. I am very passionate about bringing people together from across the world through the music and most of my projects focus on building global teams.
If you weren't a musician, what would you be doing?
I am yet to find out the answer to that question!
What gives you hope?
Nothing & everything. I’ve always believed that there is a force out there looking out for us and I think on any given day one has to rely on their intuition and follow their heart to wherever it leads. Hope depends on kindness and to achieve that, we just have to trust ourselves and that what we feel in this moment will lead to something bigger in the future.
Who do you look up to in the industry, and what is it that they're doing that inspires you?
There are just so many artists and producers who inspire me so it’ll be wrong to name just one. I was very inspired by Kimbra a few years ago for her vision as an artist, I’ve been inspired by Sergio Mendes for he collaborates with so many artists from across the globe and packs all of these amazing musicians in one project, I’ve been inspired by John Legend for the way he expresses love through his writing, by John Mayer for his live shows, by Kacey Musgraves for her simple yet deep songs. The list is very long and it’ll keep going on!
What can people expect from you in 2020?
I won’t speak for the entire year just yet, for now, my new single “Chocolate” comes out on the 10th of April. I have been working hard on a music video for the single and I can’t wait for everyone to watch it!
